I've seen a few posts from people throwing out ideas for things they may be interested in doing. If you're looking for other ideas, I encourage you to visit http://challenge.gov, which is run by the U.S. Government in an effort to "use prizes and challenges to promote innovation."

While you may not be in a position to submit a response to a challenge, I think this will give you a good source for brainstorming. The challenges range from designing mobile apps, to high temperature polymer matrix composites that can be used for Additive Direct Manufacturing, to finding solutions for small farmers, to making a video about the advantages of exporting. You can also search challenges by different industries, such as defense, education and health care.
