4460, In home swim lessons
Posted by mamasita99, Thu Aug-19-10 03:19 AM
I've been lurking for a while and now can't resist asking for this community's opinion! I have an idea to offer private swim lessons/ water fitness classes at the client's own home. I have a strong background in water safety and teaching. From my research there is not a business like this in my area. What do you think? This is seasonal but since I'm a teacher I could only do this in the summer, anyway. Thanks for any input! :)

I think this can only be a good thing. Why not find some people who have their own pools and ask them what they think about it? The biggest challenge I would think is if a large number of people do not have their own pools then how many clients could you get? Maybe there are more pools in your area, but around here most people don't have them.

Thanks for the response, it would definetly be a niche market, but we do have quite a few pools in this area. Also as a mom I have experienced the frustration of trying to get my kids registered for swim lessons at the local rec center, they booked quickly :( We are surrounded by water where I live so swimming lessons are a priority for most parents here.

I guess I should develop a short survey next and start asking parents about this service?

Go for it. I started one 2 years ago. I reccommend trying to get group lessons. You can charge less per child but get more per half hour:) $10 per kid put 4 in to get the small group feel all parents want. Get 2 classes back to back and that is $80 per hour (if it a private home give the the home owner a break on price). Also you need insurace it will cost you about $325 for two million dollars coverage for 11 months, sorry I could not find any shorter or cheaper for this amount.

Thanks so much for the ideas, I'm pretty excited about this! I'm hunting for insurance right now :)
