I am looking into opening a daycare in a small town. It is def. needed. All the other daycares have waiting lists for enrollment. I have been teaching for 6 years now and want to change up my routine. I am looking for ideas to make the daycare different and stand out from the rest in this little town. I was thinking of things like an actual Pre-K program, mother's day out, and after school tutoring programs. Any ideas and input would be much appreciated!!! :-)

You should do a search for daycare and review the websites the daycares have. You don't need to look for daycares in your area - just generally. On their websites, you could see the things they offer and get some ideas for things parents want.

Good luck!

Contact your local city hall, they will have someone that will help you with the rules and regulations regarding daycares.

I have read different stories on how different municipalities or states/Provinces have different requirements as they pertain to registered daycares (which you will want to be).

Some things that I have seen as requirements:

Police statement regarding your record
Insurance
Inspected premises
Early Childhood Educator's license.

Etc.

This is one site designed to help with setting up a daycare and chances are you'll find a lot of info on what you are up against, but verify these rules and regs with your local administrators: http://www.ccld.ca.gov/PG411.htm

Good luck.
