3252, Need Your Advice....Starting a home daycare
Posted by jenniferob60620, Fri Dec-05-08 08:56 AM
I am in the planning stages of getting ready to start a home daycare business and I'm very excited about the new opportunity. I would like to offer something in my home daycare that will make it stand out from other in home daycares. I'm thinking of some things such as transportation services for the parents, field trips for the children, maybe teaching them a foreign language. I don't want my daycare to just be the average in home daycare. Any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it.

Good for you! You obviously care and want to go above and beyond just babysitting.

You will need to be licensed by your state of course. And you should speak with an insurance broker right away to see about liability insurance. I imagine if you plan to transport children you would need additional insurance. That might make it cost prohibitive. I would concentrate on adding options such as music and/or art. Maybe even bringing in an accredited teacher (see Young Rembrandts for example). That would be costly however so you would need to charge much higher prices and market to a more upscale clientele.

Good luck to you!

Be very careful when providing transportation service and want to be actively involved in field trips. First and foremost you have to make sure you have plenty of staffing to sit with the children while you accommodate any traveling or field trips you have to do. Then your staffing will have to go through the motions of getting license. If it is going to just be you, leave the traveling and the field trips out for now. You can expand that in once your business is financially stabled to take on more daycare providers.

Hope this helps.

Yes, i think your daycare should focus on one thing specific like music, movement, language, or literacy... Because you will not experience any problems finding clients as childcare is needed tremendously. However, you can set the business apart from others by catering to a specific need or benefit... i do have a suggestion offering "webcam" where parents can see what thier children are doing while away.
