I have a great idea for a website that is for consumers across country.It is something of a craigslist.com where people will input info. My question is how do I start my advertising locally, or nationally since my funds are limited.

I would invite people with products to post them too. Marketing people, like me, browse the internet looking for places to talk about our products...

Not knowing more on the service I only have this suggestion...
Check into something like Google Adwords.

Towards the bottom of the page there's a tab "For local businesses"... which explains how you can target customers within a geographic area.
Yahoo and MSN have similar functions... so read up and see what works for you.
