2872, slip-on golf spikes Posted by Ideator, Wed Aug-13-08 01:40 AM
Since I only golf 4 times a year, I don't own golf shoes. But spikes do help with footing on slippery or sloped turf so I've come up with an idea: slip-on golf spikes that would be worn over shoes or sneakers and cost much less than golf shoes.
Benefits: > occasional golfers wouldn't have to spend money for golf shoes. > parents wouldn't have to keep buying new shoes for their kids' growing feet. > travelers could play golf wherever they go (clubs can be rented but not shoes).
So, what do you think??
Thanks. :D

I think it's a great idea, the question you should ask is whether or not the courses will allow them.
Many courses do not allow metal spikes anymore you have to have the plastic ones.

I think it is difficult to judge and there should be some serious market research to confirm or deny it. In my mind, I think of Golf as a luxury sport. Everything about it is expensive. Expensive shoes are par for the course (Please excuse very bad pun). I like playing golf, but don't like paying for it. That's why I like your idea.
My other concern would be, couldn't another product just be repositioned for this purpose: http://www.alwaysbrilliant.com/aa/aspx-products/1-28/2-52759/SC-Froogle/kw-16260/bb/Slip-On-Ice-Shoes.htm
Ice resistant slip-ons. Isn't this essentially what you are talking about with different packaging?
Good Luck

Thanks for your response.
There are slip-on ice shoes like that one and others. My design is different but the idea is the same- don't buy a special shoe, just buy the slip-on.
I haven't as yet found anything like my idea. They'll have the same "soft" plastic spikes, not metal, that are used on most shoes too.

I would do a market research survey.

Now, I'm thinking that I would do a survey as well.
I too am an occasional golfer due to lack of time, and although I usually have my own shoes that get pulled out of the garage along with my dust-covered clubs, most, if not all of the courses I have played on have shoe rentals.
If I'm going to rent the clubs, why wouldn't I just rent the shoes is what I'm thinking, and if I own my own clubs, why wouldn't I splurge and spend the $50 to $200 to buy my own shoes.
Just a thought.
