1946, interior decorating question/idea

I love decorating and have an eye for the right objects and
colors.
2yrs ago I moved to a new subdivision (3yrs old) with all new
houses...with the nearest store about 20 mins or so away but
the area is slowly growing.

I have always wanted to be an interior decorator--not an
interior designer- and am thinking of how I can approach this
and offer this service to the area.
mass mail, flyers, business cards....?
My thinking is with all the new homes and how people really
want their new homes to look good--NOW may be the time for me
to start.

i have ideas on making a portfolio, numerous places to
purchase products but not sure how to START or IF I should.
ANY HELP!?

How about this:
Survey some friends and family members about your idea and see what they think first.
Volunteer to do a few people's homes for your cost, meaning they only pay for the decor and not for you or your time and using these people as testimonials.
Try to determine how many people in your area are already doing this and if there really is a need for your services.
Once you decide to do it, the best ways to advertise in my opinion are:
listing in the phone book
join the chamber of commerce
network with friends and family and ask for refferals
you could also try leaving flyers or business cards at furniture stores as long as they don't already hire their own Interior Decorators.
Good Luck!
