After performing backgrond checks for friends (and friends of friends) it was suggested I start a biz doing this. My idea: a CD which gives tips on how to conduct background checks and 100's of free public information websites. Good idea? :7

I think it's a great idea.
If you intend to do the checks yourself (a lot of companies would pay for this service) You can give just enough info on the CD so that only the real do it yourselfers would use it, others would realize your expertise in the matter and hire you.
