1003, Do I need to be licensed for this? Posted by SB_inTX, Mon Apr-02-07 08:40 AM
Hi, I am wanting to start a security camera installation business. The thing is that I know how to put everything together but this will involve running power lines and video cable throughout a building. I am not a licensed electrician so I'm wondering if I'd be able to sub-contract that work out without having to get a license.
Oh, and do you think this would be a good biz idea. I really dig technology and I plan on getting started small-scale, part-time.
Thanks!:-)

I don't think you need an electrician's license, but there is a chance that your state requires a license to install security cameras. The installation companies here need them and a quick search tells me that the State of Ohio, at least, requires it...

Check with your state legislature.

Yep, you're right. I have to be a licensed Security Consultant which requires 2 years of security related work experience.

Well, scratch that idea...on to the next...

How unfortunate.
I am looking for commissioned Hot Sauce brokers if that strikes your fancy.

Might be a challenge pushing Canadian hot sauce in Texas ;-)
I'm interested in hearing what you have in mind.
