It seems to depend on the type of document you're notarizing and requirements per state. For real estate related documents the notaries seem to charge more, also more money for notaries that travel to their clients.
I know when I sold my timeshare for the additional witness signature, mine and notary I ended up paying 25.00. So I guess if you market yourself to certain clients or maybe team up with a realtor or attorney that may give you volume and referrals. Hope this helps, good luck!
