Not sure if any of these ideas will work for ya but maybe they will assist by re-stimulating the creative juice flow ;)

McDonalds GiftCard loaded with like $5 or whatever dollar amount you like...
or any other gift card for that matter that the kid might be into like: Burger King, Walmart, whatever the kid enjoys or kids like these days.

Now all this depends on the kids age as well:

Car trucks, dinosaurs, sponge bob, again, what ever the kid is into these days there are tons of toys like this for a buck or two at walmart that will fill a basket quickly...stuffed animal that the child might be fond of as well is a great idea...

coloring books, crayons and non staining ink markers maybe...
