What does your business do?
We prepare homemade dishes, precisely Nigerian Meals.
When and why did you start the biz?
I started my restaurant business on the 5th of February 2018.
I love venturing into a business and sincerely love to be able to help anyone in need. There are lots of youths here in the Gambia we need work but there are few job opportunities and lots of unemployed youths. The rather work than go to school. I have always want to make an impact in any little way i can. This my business i will use it to impact lives of youths both male and female positively.
How Many People are in your Company?
Where's your office?
I prepare all the meals in my kitchen with a cooking gas and my cabin. I sometimes cook outside so i don't disappointment my customers when they order for a meal i use charcoal or firewood outside under my big mango trees very cool place.
What's the toughest part of running your biz?
First is money to afford a good shop at a very good location whereby passersby and most importantly where companies are situated for easy access for them during break or lunchtime.
People do like my food but complain that they coming to my home is very far and before they get to my house they have possibly passed by several restaurants. I also need a mini bus or a small car for delivery cause after preparing the meal most times before i get a taxi or call the taxi contacts i have i get to deliver very late which also is very bad for my business. I get very sad and disappointed at myself.
What's the most fun part?
Well the fun part of it is that first i love to cook and i prepare my meals with so much and i have my girls whenever they are around from school or during the weekends to help taste the food. "Olive (my first daughter) say Mummy you are a very good cooker" *smiles* My second daughter Angelina while the food is still cooking or half cooked she will bring a bowl and ask me to give her some. Finally, the reviews i get from customers most especially my first timers its always encouraging and they do advice that i get a place so people can have easy access to me and not my home.
Anything you would have done differently?
Well i should have started this business long time since 2013/14 instead of investing in clothing. I should have studied the needs and what is lacking here in this community before investing cause lots of people are owing me.
What's next on the horizon for your biz?
After my business has grown i will have to at a point employ an experienced chef that we can partner together take the business to a more higher standard where we will be among the first 3-10 when rating.I want my restaurant to standout among others positively.
What advice do you have for others?
What kills us humans the most is procrastination. NEVER HOLD BACK ON YOUR DREAMS OR ASPIRATIONS or most IMPORTANTLY "WHAT WILL PEOPLE SAY OR THINK". Believe me people will cast you down but just keep your head up and keep believing in your dreams and IN YOURSELF that SOMEDAY, ONE DAY its all going to come into reality and people will commend you. When and if you fail or fall GET UP don't stay down, instead sit down again and re-strategize. Success is not easy YOU HAVE TO AND MUST EARN IT.

In my university days i have always said to myself i would venture into business so i can have time for my family. Family comes first.
arriving here in Gambia they only employ their citizens to work and they under pay their staff as well despite your experience. so i decided to do all kinds of business until my husband said to me one day that our friends and families love my food whenever they visit why don't i start a restaurant, then i planned for 6-8months looking for a location.
