What does your business do?
Swoovy is a mobile app that connects single people to go volunteer at a nonprofit as a date. It offers the massive market of online daters a better way to make more meaningful connections, and fuels volunteers for nonprofits who are in dire need of more support.
When and why did you start the biz?
Swoovy was established in July 2018 and the initial product launched November 1st. It was
created to solve pain points of online daters and of nonprofits trying to recruit more volunteers.
While 90% of adult Americans say the want to volunteer, only 1 in 4 do. Swoovy is built on the psychology that partnership motivates people (accountability partners, wingman, etc.), and that we can provide people with a better way to connect through shared interests, and make an impact at the same time.
How Many People are in your Company?
Where's your office?
We work remotely in Austin, TX and have 1 team member in Denver. We often work out of our
house, the library, or coffee shops.
What's the toughest part of running your biz?
Initial investment to fuel the adoption of the product. We've had amazing organic word of
mouth, resulting in over 2,000 downloads in a matter of months with little to no paid marketing, and now we need to support our team growth, product roadmap development, and advertising. We also want to expand out of Austin.
What's the most fun part?
The light in people's eyes when we tell them about Swoovy. The "no-duh, why hasn't someone
done this before". And, getting to know so many nonprofit organizations that are doing amazing things and just need the help getting the word out to recruit volunteers.
Anything you would have done differently?
Had a full-stack developer an equity partner from the very beginning.
