What does your business do?
Help plan and decorate for an event and organize lives.
When and why did you start the biz?
I love event planning and organizing! It’s a great stress reliever
for me and I get to help others. I was one of those bride’s who
planned everything for my wedding and I was so stressed that the
day before the rehearsal dinner, I left and drove and hour and a
half away to my best friend’s house and didn’t even tell my
fiancé! I do not want anyone to ever go through what I went
through. Being able to help someone with their special day,
taking on all the stress so they can enjoy the process, is very
gratifying for me. Planning for a special occasion should be
enjoyed, not dreaded, not stressful and shouldn’t make you run
I have planned and decorated multiple events for different ones,
family, friends, co-workers and companies. I have helped many
organize their homes, garages, sheds and offices. Each time I’ve
been told, “You need to do this for a living! You’re so
talented!” So, last year, May 13, 2017, I took the plunge! I
started “It’s All About You” event planning and organizing
How Many People are in your Company?
Where's your office?
My "office" is all over the place at our home. My desk is in the
hallway, I have inventory in the spare bedroom, in the attic, in the
mudroom and in my husbands workshop.
What's the toughest part of running your biz?
The toughest part of running my business right now is not having a
building for my office and "show room". I have organized my
inventory as best I can with my situation, but having a 2-level barn
type building would make things a lot easier!
What's the most fun part?
Oh my goodness! To pick out the most fun part is hard for me as I
enjoy it ALL!! I love helping a host/hostess decide what their
"style" is. I love helping them visualize the end result and I
love watching their face light up when they step into the venue
and see what I have created for them.
I love looking at their face when I have made a part of their life
that was so chaotic into something organized and serene.
There's nothing like it!
Anything you would have done differently?
I think the biggest thing I have learned is to listen, I mean
really listen to what your client is saying and not saying. You
have to read between the lines sometimes because although the
event may be THEIR thing, they may have others giving their
opinions as to what needs to take place, how it needs to be
decorated, etc. This is why I chose the name "It's All About
You". I really feel that way. It's about the ones who the event
is all about, not anyone else. So listening is huge!
What's next on the horizon for your biz?
I currently have a company working on my website, I hoping to go to
Western Carolina University and obtain the Event Planning
Certification and then I want to have a 2-story barn type building
built for my office and "show room".
What advice do you have for others?
Don't give up! I have a fear of failure as most people do but I
refuse to give up! I had a dream of being in Law Enforcement from
the time I was 7 years old. I have fulfilled that dream and am ready
for my next dream to come true. That book in my life is complete and
I'm ready for the next book to unfold. Don't think you can't because
you can! Just do it!
How do you use Idea Cafe to help your biz?
I actually just started with Idea Cafe and I already love how it asks
for my feedback regarding my business. To be able to help others
with maybe something they are struggling with is awesome! I can't
wait to be able to read others trials, tribulations and successes!
What an encouragement it will be!
School (where, still in school, degree)?
Methodist University, Justice Studies with a minor in Sociology and concentration in Forensic Science
Prior jobs or business?
I currently work in Probation/Parole while working my business. I am
hoping to be able to work my business full-time within a year!
What are your pets' names?
Phoebe and Penny
Do any of these pets help with your biz?
No but I do show them items I've made and ask them if they like it.
So far no complaints, lol.
Is there any one person or event in your life that led
you to go into business for yourself?
I'm tired of the corporate world office politics. Hearing and seeing
all the backbiting stuff has just warn thin on me. I'm ready to make
people happy and see them happy.
Anyone you publicly want to thank?
I want to thank my family who has always supported me in doing what I
do. They have stood behind me and have actually played a huge role
in me starting my own business. So thank you fam!!! I love you
