What does your business do?
We are a new company with an improved approach to creating cutting edge equestrian riding
apparel and accessories. Some of the Items that we feature are Polo shirts, T-Shirts, Breeches, Socks, riding vests, leggings, and tank tops.
When and why did you start the biz?
I started Privileged and Plaid last year because, being a victim of post war trauma, I wanted to find a way to help people with some of the same issues I have dealt with and conquered. These things include PTSD and anxiety. I plan on starting a non-profit for our veterans using horses and therapy. This is a noble idea, but it takes money. This is the motivation for the success of my clothing line. My plan is to start the non-profit once my business is profitable.
How Many People are in your Company?
Where's your office?
The office right now looks just like my apartment. actually, it is my apartment. I have a loft space that is well laid out upstairs. The clothes that we have manufactured are stored in neat plastic bins with printed labels. I have a computer that is dedicated to the business. This space is working for now, as we have leather couches and television in that space to make sure we are comfortable when we work.
What's the toughest part of running your biz?
Having enough capital to keep the momentum I have created in the business.
What's the most fun part?
Being creative, always looking for new ways and ideas to better our products and differentiate us from other brands.
Anything you would have done differently?
Some employees in the past have not been as productive and efficient as hoped for. We have
had to make some changes but we have identified people that share our vision and excitement.
What's next on the horizon for your biz?
Our plan is to sell out of our first order and reinvest into a winter line.
What advice do you have for others?
Be flexible. Business is not a static thing. It is always changing andI have realized the benefit to being able to modify plans, use multiple approaches until you get what you want, refine ideas and procedures and always aim for the next level.
How do you use Idea Cafe to help your biz?
I am using Idea Cafe upon the recommendation of US Business Funding Solutions. After
exploring the site I found it nice to read articles that made me not feel so alone in the business world. It was refreshing to see some businesses with the same challenges as I face daily in business.
School (where, still in school, degree)?
University of Phoenix Bachelor's in Psychology
Prior jobs or business?
I have worked in the entertainment industry doing marketing and sales. This is my first business. I incorporated Privileged and Plaid last year and have consistently Grown and continue to do so.
What are your pets' names?
Mr. Twinkles, London's Captain Jack
Do any of these pets help with your biz?
Yes, London's Captain Jack is a mustang who has not only been a salient part of my mental
health but a great mascot for the company. Mr. Twinkles is a min pin with a full grown
doberman's attitude. He gives awesome moral support.
Is there any one person or event in your life that led
you to go into business for yourself?
I would say it was based on my experiences being in a war zone in Serbia, my home country. I am a US citizen as well, but before I came to the US I suffered post war trauma. I have had to overcome a lot. Getting over the trauma I suffered started when I started horseback riding. A horse has a special power to heal. This is why I want my clothing line to flourish, so I can give back in the form of a non-profit organization that helps our veterans that suffer a lot of the same issues I have had. I want to use horses and therapy to benefit the veterans. My plan is to grow as a clothing line and use that as a springboard to opening the non-profit.
Anyone you publicly want to thank?
I want to say hi to my cousin Marko who has been instrumental in the growth of my business.
