What Are You Doing on Each Day in an SMSTS Course

An SMSTS course is essential for being a good site manager. It is not an extensive course and it is really useful if you want to advance or simply to refresh your memory on the latest health and safety rules in the field. Usually, such a course lasts for 5 days, and if you are interested in following it up, then you might want to know what are you going to do each day. You can find more information on specialized websites, such as Wedotraining.

Day 1.

The first day will start with the required administration work. After that, you will see an introduction to the course, as well as the aims, the objectives and the expectations of the course. You will also have to fill out a questionnaire, for the trainers to see what your level is. This is not a test, but a mere evaluation useful for the trainers.

Day 2.

Now, the first thing you do is to look at the Exercise 1 that you carried on day 1. You will receive feedback and then you will talk about management of contractors. Moreover, you will also learn about the working environment and how to make it a safe place, thus leading to Work at Height Regulations. You will also carry on Exercise 2 and get some homework.

Day 3.

Naturally, you will receive feedback on Exercise 2, after which you will discuss managing construction health risks, which includes controlling physical risks, but also hazardous substances. Trainers will offer you health and safety options for monitoring. Last but not least, you will complete Exercise 3, paired up with a review of the day and some reading for next day.

Day 4.

Similarly to the previous days, you will receive feedback for the exercises you carried on during day three and you will be introduced to this day's content. The topic will be cooperation and communication, which means you have the duty to offer information, as well as instruction and further training. You will learn again about construction health and safety, moving from confined spaces to flammable liquids and other underground services. You will also do Exercise 4, plus a review of the day and you will receive homework.

Day 5.

The final day comes with the final revision to prepare you for the end of course exam, that will also take place on this day. You will also review exercise four and you will talk about its evolution. The tutor will complete the course by focusing on objectives and aims, completing various feedback forms and wrapping up the course paperwork.

If you pass the course, you will get an SMSTS card and a CITB Site Safety Plus certificate.
