Thinking of Starting Your Own Amusement Park? Here's What You Need to Know
Many of us have numerous fond childhood memories of amusement parks. From the hidden gems, nondescript buildings that house a whole world of fun and adventure, to the titans that are Disney and Six Flags, the amusement park experience has the potential to be many things. If you have found yourself thinking more and more about actually starting your own amusement park venture, here’s what you need to know.
OverviewAmusement parks, sometimes known as ‘theme parks’, are entertainment ventures that provide a range of activities, rides, and games for visitors to try. The term theme park is usually used to refer to the large, outdoor amusement parks that feature roller coasters and other similar rides on rails. However, the term amusement park can be applied to a plethora of different businesses. For example, there are amusement parks that are located entirely indoors and, instead of rides like roller coasters, feature activities like laser tag. If you’re going to start your own amusement park, one of the first things that you will need to decide is exactly how you will be amusing your guests. The good news is that this really is entirely up to you. Some people will stumble across an unmissable deal for a certain piece of equipment and will base their initial offerings around this. However, you can just as easily have your own custom inflatable theme park made to order by a company like Galaxy Multi Rides.
Is it Right for me?Just because you enjoy going to an amusement park, even if you really enjoy it, that doesn’t necessarily mean that you will enjoy running one. For one thing, when you are responsible for the operation of the theme park, the upkeep of the rides, the safety of the guests and staff, and everything else that comes with running the place, you won’t have time to stop and enjoy the rides. That’s not to say that running a theme park can’t be fun, but you just need to know what you’re getting yourself into before you commit too heavily. If you are someone who likes engineering and machines, you will have ample opportunities to get up close and personal with the machinery of a modern theme park ride.
What Do I Need?Setting aside the main attraction(s) - the amusements themselves - there are a number of other things that your theme park will need. Ever played Roller Coaster Tycoon? You wouldn’t believe some of the stuff they left out of that simulator. For example, any theme park needs a solid legal team available at all times. If anything goes wrong, especially if injury results, then you could be held financially liable. This can cripple your business if you don’t have lawyers ready to go at a moment’s notice. You will also need to add concessions and other amenities - these are an important part of the amusement park economy. As long as you take the time to research the market and think carefully about exactly how you are going to enter it, starting your own theme park could be the start of a truly special journey. It won’t be easy, but the potential rewards are huge.
