A Guide To The Benefits Of Company Apps - And Reasons Why Your Firm Needs One
Since the iPhone was first launched by Steve Jobs way back in 2007 at the annual MacWorld event, the web has been transformed by mobile devices. Where once we logged on using cumbersome desktop towers and CRT screens, now mobile use dominates the internet. Indeed, depending on which statistic you believe, mobile device traffic now accounts for anywhere between 50-80% of all internet traffic.
The mobile revolution Through a combination of improved technology and vastly quicker connection speeds (including the breathtakingly fast 5G technology), the wireless web has become a reality, and with more and more of our gadgets and devices now becoming internet-enabled, the trend shows no signs of slowing.
However, in conjunction with the shift en-masse to web mobile web use has come another silent revolution in the background - namely the need for smart applications to run on our devices to fully capitalize on the benefits offered by non-tethered web access.
The age of the app Modern mobile applications draw on the considerable processing power and associated devices that feature on today’s handhelds - everything from its GPS signal to its camera and microphone, etc. Using these in-built capabilities makes apps considerably more powerful than just standard websites and can bring a raft of benefits to your users. However, the question remains, should you invest in an app for your firm?
Does my firm need an app?
Apps help branding: By its nature, an app sits on the home screen of your client’s device, meaning your logo remains front and center in their minds. Also, reaching you is as simple as a basic tap on your launch icon.
No matter how you look at it, apps add legitimacy and gravity: It might sound a little trivial but having a company app is cool. It makes you stand out, lends gravity to what you’re doing, and makes you look more serious in your endeavors - particularly if your rivals don’t have one.
Apps improve communication: Linked to the branding point above, depending on the services you include in your application, your customers will have direct access to your sales and support team through the app.
Apps can help build loyalty: Being featured on your clients’ home screens will undoubtedly help them remember you, but you could also incorporate other tricks into your application to keep them coming back. For example, if you have an e-com-enabled app, you could include a loyalty scheme that entitles users to discounts when certain thresholds are met, etc.
Apps allow you to unobtrusively communicate directly with clients: Remember the ‘good’ old days when you would post company news on your website in the hope someone might eventually stumble over your finely-crafted prose, almost by accident? With an app, you can publish posts directly to users who will receive a notification the minute you publish your article.
