Answer from our Guest Expert Kent Capener of Capener ConsultingPAGE 4Customer referrals Spark InterestDevelop a file of referral letters. In essence, they're instant letters of recommendation you can present as proof of your quality service and customer satisfaction. If you're just getting started, as it sounds from your posting, determine from your past customers who (either by who they are or by the nature of their case) would be a benefit to you. Ask them if they'd be willing to sign a short letter of recommendation for you. Don't ask them to write one for you. If they're willing, they'll agree, but when it comes time to follow through --- well, you know how that can go. You're much better off to draft the letter yourself and present it to them with the notion that if it's acceptable, they'll put it on their letterhead and sign it. Final ThoughtsLocal area restaurants survive based on quality, community, and repeat business. No matter the concept for the food or restaurant - you can't do it only by thinking about it. When the maitre d` in the Caf of Life catches you napping over the menu - poof! Suddenly, you're now the star of a remake of Groundhog Day. So do your homework before opening your doors and see which strategies will help make your restaurant stand out among the rest. Hope this helps! Kent Capener of Capener Consulting
