Owning Up to Financial Responsibility

From everything you've asked so far, it seems clear he isn't someone who wants to be responsible for finances, and he may even recognize he isn't the one to handle this. In this case, how about having him delegate functions, such as check books, credit cards, and billing to an accountant, assistant or outside service? If he isn't taking on the financial responsibility, get someone else to do it. This person is the one who can pester him for those billing invoices and missed charges, not you.

With him not wanting to take financial responsibility and with you close to the financial situation and being married to him, perhaps he isn't talking about it because he doesn't have the answers. Will he speak with someone else? Someone with nothing to lose? Perhaps a friend, colleague, business associate, or business coach? Sometimes people will open up with someone who isn't so close to the problem, and this might be healthy for you and the marriage too.

Focus on Business Strengths; Delegate Weaknesses

Since replacing him isn't an option, focus on his gifts and strengths to the business. Find a way for him to avoid those areas that are causing problems for you. Your husband might be more of a technician and a doer. Perhaps he needs to hire or associate with someone else to operate the business? ( A great book for both of you to read is the E-Myth Revisited by Michael Gerber.) (continued)
