About Guest Expert: Christian L. Nielsen of Nielsen Technical Services

A self-taught entrepreneur and computer guru, Christian has earned his small business success through hard work and determination. Using his skills and savvy from a myriad of jobs both in and out of the computer industry, Christian founded Nielsen Technical Services more than a dozen years ago and has evolved it into a specialized service: search engine optimization and search engine submissions. By spending so much time working on this one aspect of Internet marketing, Christian feels his company has refined the process to be as efficient and as cost-effective as possible for his clients.

Over the years, Christian has balanced his thriving part-time small business with a full-time job; and he thinks he might be able to go full-time with his business in the very near future. Even though time get can tight and schedules harried, he keeps his cool with a healthy philosophy:

"Your health and spirituality are the two most important things to be aware of, to be thankful for, and to safeguard. Business should be what you do, not who you are. You should never be anything that can be taken away or lost. I have taken my business philosophy from Sidhartha by Herman Hess. In business, as in life, there are ups and downs and one should not be carried too far by the highs and lows, but rather seek the middle wherein lies reason and perspective."

When Christian isn't busy running his small business and working at his job, he enjoys being with his family -- wife, Kumiko, and stepson, Scott. He relaxes with music, movies, and reading. And to make life even more interesting, Christian and his family are raising two young Bengal cats, Max and Rocky, who are exotic members of the family.

About Nielsen Technical Services

Nielsen Technical Services provides computer repair, consulting, and data recovery services. While the products and services have changed to suit the industry, the company's primary goal has not. The goal has always been to provide good service at a fair cost and to have customer satisfaction on every project.

In 1997, the technology focus of the company changed as the Internet changed the IT industry as nothing else ever has. Choosing to bypass web site development as a primary service offering, Christian clearly recognized that a broader service offering would bring the greatest advantage in a new and quickly evolving technology.

Starting with general webmaster and administration services, the company discovered one area that was virtually unknown by the very companies that should have known the most, the web site development companies. That one area was search engine optimization (SEO) and search engine submissions. Most web development companies are focused on the construction and appearance of the sites they develop, and not on the ability of those sites to deliver in the marketplace.

The company specializes on delivering top value for small and medium-sized business that need search engine optimization beyond simple site submissions, but cannot afford spending several thousand dollars to have their site optimized and submitted.

Christian's Answers

"In researching search engine optimization (SEO) companies to optimize and submit my site, should I be concerned that some are not very well listed? And, what have you done to optimize and promote your own company's site?"

"I've had my web site up for a few weeks now and I'm still confused about search engine submissions. This is my first attempt at building a site, so I'm learning as I go. It was only after I published the site did I hear of submitting to search engines so I paid $50.00 for a submission service, but that seems to have been fruitless. I have heard that one can be penalized for certain content, but how would I know if such content exists with my site?"
