Corporate GrantmakersLike the government, corporations that provide grants do so for a purpose that relates to their own mission. Corporate grants are often restricted to specific cities or regions where the company does business. Many corporate grants are also restricted to local community and/or non-profit organizations. So in order to get a corporate grant, you may need to think locally.
However, many corporations also fund the kinds of activities YOU are thinking of starting with your small biz. The Foundation Center provides a comprehensive list of grantmakers, so it's worth bookmarking and surfing through from time to time. It offers several ways to view what corporations have to offer; you can use the search tool, or you can cruise through the alphabetized list, or open up the "annotated view" for a brief description of each listing.
