Are You Crazy? You Can't Make Money Doing That!
By Liz Folger
It sounds so simple, doesn't it? Just do what you love and watch
the money roll in. It makes sense, but many people get hung up in
one particular area when trying to make this whole concept work.
"What do I LOVE to do?"
As busy moms, wives, PTA presidents, car-poolers, Sunday school
teachers and possibly working full-time out of the house - it's
so easy to forget what it is you really enjoy doing.
What Did You Play?
In my book, "The Stay-at-Home Mom's Guide To Making Money", I try
to make the search of what home business to start as easy as possible.
I first ask a person to look to their childhood years. This may
seem sort of silly, you probably see yourself playing most of the
day away. Ahhh...that's it, playing. What did you used to play?
What play is to one child, might feel like torture to another.
As soon as I learned to write, I was writing poetry. That was very
enjoyable to me. I know some kids can instantly bond with just about
any animal and another child will break into tears at the site of
a ground squirrel scurrying up a tree. My husband spent his younger
days running around the woods, teaching himself camouflage, and
tracking. He later joined the US Marine Corps as a grunt. This past
week he got his non-profit corporation set up to start an adventure
summer camp for teenage boys. Being outside and teaching others
about survival and being the best you can be - that's his thing.
How many times growing up did you tell your parents/teachers/relatives/friends
that when you grow up you plan to _____________ (you fill in the
blank). And how many times did they say, "Are you crazy? You can't
make money doing that?" Unfortunately you get enough people telling
you that you can't do something - you're going to start to believe
it.
Find Your "Thing"
What's your thing? I truly believe every person is born with very
unique talent. When you are actually pursuing that special talent
you will find such inner peace and contentment. As far as the money
pouring in... I can't promise hundreds of thousands of dollars if
you follow your dreams and do what you really want. But I will guarantee
that if you find a home business you really like, you will stick
with that business longer, through the lean times, because you aren't
in it for the money. You're doing it because you love it so much.
When you truly enjoy what you're doing, you will market your business
better, you'll talk to others about it more, and you'll work harder
at it. The results of these equal money.
My hope for those of you who are still searching for a home business
is that you'll decide now that you can start a business that you'll
enjoy - that your work can actually be fun. Finding this type of
biz can take time to find - but once you find it, its worth is immeasurable.
