Rhonda's Gentle Care Transportation

What does your business do?
Precious cargo transport! RGC??s dedicated staff welcomes our critical responsibility of ??Getting you there with the utmost care?. RGC has the pleasure of transporting greater Chicago??s elderly, low-income and disabled individuals to healthcare appointments, adult daycare, and other destinations as needed.

How would you use the grant money?
??Breaker one-nine?, ??got your ears on??Grant money would enable Rhonda??s Gentle Care Transportation to purchase and install citizens' band radios (CB) in each of our five vehicles. In RGC??s case, it is more important for our customers that we utilize proven effective practices to bridge a communication gap rather than be innovative. However, creativity will be delivered in ensuring our operators are properly trained on everyday use of the radios and use for myriad minor and major incident prevention, mitigation, response and recovery; a variety of mock drills and scenarios will be used to teach drivers, dispatchers and other staff the radio functions.

What would the grant enable you to do that you can't now?
Idea Café??s grant will enable RGC to provide another layer of safety and reliability to our customers. CB radios will enable drivers to tend to our high-need clientele while our dispatchers work to resolve issues that may arise. For example, currently, if a vehicle has mechanical issues, drivers must coordinate an alternate vehicle, schedule a tow company, and provide vital instructions to the alternate driver. Drivers are capable of these arrangements, however, drivers?? main priority should be unobstructed, vigilant oversight of passengers, ensuring the needs of low-income, elderly and disabled clients are met.

If Idea Cafe's Grant helps your biz reach greater success, how will you "pay it forward" to help others in some way?
Rhonda Harmon, RGC??s founder and owner, is passionate about giving to others and is tenacious when it comes to encouraging our clients to be healthy, especially by keeping their doctor appointments ?? many times having just one person who cares, makes a big difference. In overcoming her own obstacles, and living with a debilitating disease, Rhonda??s inspiration is infectious and is recognized by her staff, her clients and her daughter. Paying it forward is a part of the culture of the business and although we will absolutely be thrilled with Idea Café??s grant, we will make it a priority to help others piece together and navigate overall health plans for their families, especially with the changes being implemented in the healthcare system, whether we receive the grant, or not.
