What does your business do?Books from Higher Ground is an independent publishing company that specializes in helping people tell their stories. Working with authors from all walks of life, all levels of writing ability, all motivations for sharing, it is our hope that through helping people tell their stories of triumph we will inspire others and empower them to overcome whatever obstacles they face. Our vision is to provide individuals who are in shelters with free books to help empower them to overcome adversity. If we are blessed with an Idea Cafe grant, we will be able to reach out to those who desire to tell their stories in a big way. We will be able to go out into the prisons and shelters and share motivational stories of transformation with those who may be feeling hopeless. It is our desire to be able to help people get their stories out without charging them as the subsidy publishers out there often do.
How would you use the grant money?The grant would be used for start-up costs for the business. The cost of registering with the Secretary of State will be included as well as the cost of purchasing a block of ISBN numbers for ten projects and paying for marketing and distribution costs.
What would the grant enable you to do that you can't now?Currently, we are publishing under the ISBN numbers provided by our vendor, but in order to put our own imprint on our books and begin to distribute them under Books from Higher Ground, we will need to purchase our own numbers. We are hoping to provide books for those who are in shelters as a means of empowering others to overcome adversity.
If Idea Cafe's Grant helps your biz reach greater success, how will you "pay it forward" to help others in some way?If we are able to win this grant, we will be donating the proceeds of some of our books to charities that are set up to empower others. Books from Higher Ground was started in order to help fund the women's empowerment initiatives of Higher Ground Ministries. As we grow, we hope to reach out to other charities geared toward helping people overcome challenges.
