Heirloom Kitchen

What does your business do?
Heirloom Kitchen is a carefully curated purveyor of kitchenware, both unusual and stately, as well as a venue for culinary classes that will inspire novice and professional chefs alike. With an emphasis on craftsmanship, function and form, we seek out the most unique, artisanal items from around the globe to carry in our boutique.

Our cooking school offers a variety of hands-on classes from pasta-making, home-brewing, canning & jamming, and making the most of the season's fresh produce to digging into a four-course meal youâ??ve made yourself (with a little help from the Tri-State area's most prestigious chefs).

We are culinary pioneers, inspired by heirloom products, creative discoveries, and the celebration of food.

How would you use the grant money?
The grant money would be utilized to help make my vision a reality. It would be used to help with upfront costs to open the business including purchasing inventory, build out money for the space, and creating my dream demo kitchen.

What would the grant enable you to do that you can't now?
The grant will help us get that much closer to our capital goal. We are in the beginning stages of raising capital and seeking out sponsors for our demonstration kitchen with brands we admire. The grant will enable us to purchase inventory at the NY Gift Show & Houseware show in Chicago, help with upfront costs for legal fees, our architect, research, website development, etc. The money will help us with the build out of our 2000 sq ft space. The feeling of the space will set the tone for Heirloom Kitchen. Our goal is for it to be hip but approachable and extremely comfortable. A place for foodies to come gather to create and experiment in kitchen in a laid back environment. Almost like their own kitchen!

If Idea Cafe's Grant helps your biz reach greater success, how will you "pay it forward" to help others in some way?
This path is one that will certainly allow me to pay it forward. Heirloom Kitchen is a place that I believe will have a great impact on the community. I want to help educate the community on good food and where it comes from. I see Heirloom Kitchen to be a home for foodies like myself to go to. A place for families and friends to gather. We will "pay it forward" by supporting local chefs and farms and using our space and kitchen to fund-raise for issues we deem to be important such as school food reform and joining local food coalitions. This grant will be confirmation that if you follow your heart and intuition you can make your dreams and entrepreneurial goals come true.
