Have recently been told that my job is going to change and my not have one come next year. I recently had a heart attack and well because of health reasons need some ideas of what I can do as far as possible work from home or opening a business. I also want something mobile because I my be relocating within the next year down south?


I use to have a DJ company but shut it down because my doc does not want me to lift heavy equipment all the time. Im currently working as a PC support specialist so a good deal of the technology end of a new business I can handle myself. Like websites ect...

Im not looking to get into any MLM scams right now because I need to generate some cash as soon as possible,

Hi Pens87, We needed a way to make extra income while full-time RVing. Since I'd worked from home since 1977 I looked into the ways we could do this and came up with quite a few. But I ended up creating an entire business out of either writing business startup manuals or promoting other reliable ones. I do mostly writing and video courses, but there are lots of other ways to earn money. One of my favorites was to teach CPR and First Aid as an American Heart Association Instructor. That's pretty easy on your heart and pretty stress-free. There are ways to do this as a mobile business, too.

Anyway, I made up a list of self-employment niches for my students to consider. There are about 500 here, and still I know I've missed a bunch. But look this over and note what you can do. Then you have to figure out how to determine if there is enough business in the one(s) you like to support you, or if you'll need to do several things.

You might want to add Promotional Advertising under your sales category. It's a great fit for home-based work with good to excellent income prospects.

One idea you might consider is promotional advertising sales. It's a niche market to many, that allows the home-based worker to compete with the "Mom & Pop" distributors as well as the national corporations.

I stated my dealership 30 years ago, strictly working from home. it's been my full-time occupation since 1987. I do a mix of internet, phone, and in-person sales, usually spending two to three days a week making sales calls in my area.

By choice, I also make an overnight sales trip to Houston, TX, but the drive allows me to attend the Houston PPA meeting each month for my on-going education in the industry.

With other 4000 suppliers, offering 900K+ products from around the world, we literally have something to fill the needs of any business.

The company I sell for is looking for additional dealers, but limits their market to people living in the U.S. only. If you live elsewhere, you will likely find similar opportunity, just not with Kaeser & Blair.

Four great aspects of my business -

Portability - Using a laptop with WiFi and and iPad, we can continue serving our clients while driving down the road. Our mobility has allowed us to take 3 to 4 trips a year to visit our oldest son and his family in SC over the past two years, while keeping the business flowing.

If we relocate, we can keep a good number of our clients using us as their source, with online and telephone orders. (I'm already serving customers across Texas and as far away as Kansas and Utah!)

Volume sales - Instead of selling one to five items per sale, we're selling 48 to 7500 pieces at a time. Regardless of whether it's ink pens & pencils, or calendars, umbrellas, coffee mugs, or embroidered shirts, caps, & jackets, our average sales is $500+, providing much more commission than typical direct sales products.

Repeat orders - This is one of the best opportunities for repeat business, both for new and different, as well as repeat of previous orders. The only industries I can think of with higher repeat sales is grocery stores and restaurants.

Flexibility - I can work more hours when I choose, and fewer when needed to fit my business into my lifestyle.

Most of my sales come during the 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. business day, and I can do layouts/artwork after hours when I have more uninterrupted time available.

My business could match both your needs for home-based work, and the future relocation.

Very nicely explained. Do you make any money on recruiting? Are you talking about one specific company to work for, or are you talking about being a rep in general?

Either way, would you be interested in rewriting the above as a guest blog? I do a blog for RVers who travel part and full time. If this is something they could do while traveling around the country, or living full-time in an RV, this may be the answer for some of my readers.

The reason I ask is that my time is over-committed because I'm re doing all of my courses in genealogy and working from home as video courses. This is very time consuming,taking about six to eight weeks per course, and there are 14 of them.

So, I'm recruiting some guest bloggers to provide good content and giving them a chance to promote their opportunities in the process. Most of my readers are people who want to go into business independently, some as external employees, but most as independent contractors or sales reps of one sort or another.

I do earn override income for recruiting/sponsoring other dealers who sign on with Kaeser & Blair, Inc.

I did write my original response for those who are interested in becoming distributors in general. Promotional advertising is a great marketplace, and it can be down without signing with K & B, however, for those who plan on doing the business while traveling, I highly recommend they partner with K & B as it will ease some of the burdend associated with the business.

I'd be delighted in writing this as a blog. I have some experience in operating the business while on the road, as my wife and I have done a substantial volume of our business while on vacation over the past two years.

We have made three to four trips to South Carolina for each of the past two years, since our oldest son and his family relocated there 28 months ago. Using an iPad, my wife has submitted orders while we are flying down the Interstate highways (and some byways) at 45 to 75 mph. There are additional challenges to operating away from the home office, and it makes me more respectful of the advantages we enjoy with Kaeser & Blair.

The K & B opportunity is for Independent Agents, paying excellent commissions with bonuses available. There are no daily, weekly, or monthly quotas and no minimum order requirements with them, however some of our approximately 4000 suppliers have minimum order requirements.

There are also no sales territories, just the basic restriction that the opportunity is available for U.S. residents only. I've written orders for customers in almost all of the 50 states, including one or two that shipped to Alaska or Hawaii.

This is our full-time occupation, but many K & B dealers are only part-timers, so this can work well for the RVers as well as any who are just looking for a home-based business.
