I currently stated working from home a printing business.....meaning:Business Cards Flyers Invitations Custom Chocolate Wrappers I did this without a resale #, how do I go about getting one... Once I do, here's another question...I have the idea of doing something I've seen others do... purchase water bottles but putting my business info on them...what can I do to go about it the legal way without having to find myself in a law suit, obviously I'd have to buy the bottles without labels, or should I buy the water bottles from wholesale? Just a little bit of feedback would help. Thank you! Luna

Your state tax commission issues sales tax and resale permits. If you have been operating without one, you could be subject to back taxes. Also check with your city clerk's office to find out about a home business permit. You may not need one if customers don't come and go at your home. Before you can advertise the water bottles, you will need to have samples, so you will need to find a wholesale supplier of blank ones. Look for businesses that sell to advertising specialty companies. They have all kinds of items that can be imprinted.

What I do is work with MS Word, PaintBrush programs....my 4 in 1 printer (scanner/fax/printer/copier) With my own imagination I create forms w/basic info. I scan pictures & create a design....this is what I do.... if you wish to create forms then may I suggest you use the MS Word doc to borrow a few... I wish I could help you....my best suggestion is look at other forms you ever filled out... then create your own with your own Logo.... :-} Luna

A water bottle is empty very fast and then away. Why you don't give away free, printed tshrts or similar else, which stays a longer time? Why not really good designed tshirts, with only a bit / or a bit fancyful advertising? That's because nobody wears a tshirt with too much advertising, in exception to paint the wall behind the house or to wash the car.

GREAT IDEA! but since I'm recently getting started... shouldn't I be promoting what I can provide? I would not be able to provide t-shirts unless I make an arrangement w/a silk screener & a t-shirt company....correct me if I'm wrong? It's a great idea though... thanks! Luna

Yes, for that you need a t-shirt printing company commonly. Perhaps you can promote your business with paper products, related products: As Cathy has written, mousepads: I have seen mousepads covered with a transparent plastic, at one side open to put in your advertisment made of paper, printed. Perhaps you can give away printed calendars, arranged e.g. as 3x4 months for a year, with a picture and your advertisment.

Hi Luna, I think the only thing a resale # does is it enables you to do is buy things for your business without having to pay sales tax. You can obtain a resale # from a local Board of Equalization branch. As for the water bottle label idea...it's not a bad idea. But how about post it notes with your business info? Or mouse pads with your business info and logo? Or small pocket sized address books? Just shooting ideas... Cathy Independent Beauty Consultant http://www.MaryKay.com/Cathy_Ley

I don't have the machinery to produce them. I work mainly with paper, ink & creativity this is why the only things I provide for my customers are... -business cards -resumes -copies -flyers -chocolate wrappers -bottle wrappers -paper napkin holders -invitations -thank you notes see....all simple paper items.... this why I stand confused as to how to be able to provide more... thanks for your feed back though...trully appreciated. :-)
