A generic none compete is probably not worth much. They have to be worded just right to be inforciable. You can not require someone to NEVER do business in the area again. You can not require somebody somebody to not compete everywhere in the US. To get an enforciable non-compete you would need to go to a lwayer. richardm

I should have added that to my post. You must always consult with your attorney on these types of legal matters and to make sure that it complies with all of your local and state regulations and laws. Thanks for reminding me Richard.Jim Rusk

I think the agreement is needed to help prevent the subcontractor from bypassing the contractor and selling direct to the customer. I think the contractor will also want a noncircumvent agreement. In any case this is a common problem. An attorney will likley have the document on the shelf. I figure the attorney cost to be about $90.00.TOM ROSE

If I'm right the agreement can be written to limit the noncompete/noncircumvent agreement to one customer for a specific type of work. This would be more appropriate then asking a subcontractor to never again do any work within "x" miles of the contractors place of business. The limited agreement is common and totally reasonable.Tom Rose

What I most want to cover is if the contractor quits and undercuts my price and contacts my clients. Thanks for all the advice, I will contact my lawyer.
