Joanne: Exactly what sort of thing are you looking for? Many years ago I owned a tack shop and dealt with several big wholesalers. Let me know what you want to carry and I will see what I can dig up for you. (Having had horses for 53 years, I am pretty familiar with suppliers). I NEED GOOD QUALITY LEATHER BRIDLES AND BREAST COLLARS-USUALLY WITH SILVER ALSO NEED SADDLE PADS-LOOKING FOR SOMETHING UNUSUAL-A WIDE VARIETY OF COLORS. HALTERS,GIRTHS,LEADROPES,REINS AND NYLON TACK-LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WHO COULD COME UP WITH NEW OR DIFFERENT COLORS THAN WHAT IS OUT THERE RIGHT NOW.BARREL RACERS LOVE TO COLOR CORDINATE THEIR EQUIPMENT, SO I AM TRYING TO SEE IF I CAN OFFER UNIQUE, NEW COLORS. Joanne, in the gift lines I carry Breyer models, and Dover Books. Both great lines! We have shipped all over the world; but don't have a web sight as yet. Operating from a very small community (1800) the internet has been a godsend; we're able to find people who would never find their way to the shop. Please let me know where you're located and I can possibly point you to the closet wholesale rep. Kay

Rachel, I don't have a tack shop! I started out in "Books Used and Rare"; then expanded into all the things I enjoy. I had collected Breyer when I was a child; my daughter and now my granddaughter are also collectors. We had such fun with them in the shop that we started looking for other items that would go with. Now we do t-shirts, shampoos, soap, puzzles, books, porcelains, Peter Stone and Breyer, carousel figures, and anything else we can find with a horse theme. I would suggest that you visit every tack shop you can find; take along a notebook and write down everthing you like. That's basically how we started. We also try to add something new each year. We've also found that any new item should be given a three year trial. If it isn't all that popular replace it with something else. Your customers will come back just to see how you've changed. And you need a varity of things in price range from $1 to the high end items. Consider putting in candy canes or some other small item for the kids so Mom or Dad won't mind buying something for them. Also consider e-commerce. We live in an area of small population (1800); a Summer tourist area. Three months of the year we see heavy traffic in the shop; the other nine months we rely on the internet. Check out ClipClop.com. They're new but I hope to be busy with them this Fall.
