Currently I am in the process of starting a clothing company and I want to protect myself from buyers who might cancel orders that they place with me. So, I wanted to make up an agreement that buyers have to cancel orders within 20 days if they don't want my merchandise. I thought maybe this type of agreement would protect me financially if buyers ever decide to cancel orders with me at the last minute. So is this a good thing to do or not ? I really need help!!

I have contract forms that talk about this same thing for my web site design/hosting business and I find the contract doesn't really mean too much. If they cancal and my job is only a few hundread dollors it is not worth going to court of anything like that. This is why I require a deposit up front. I quote each job indivuidually, along with the required deposit. I usualy ask for at least 30%, but I believe I'm going to start to require 50% upfront.

A big factor is going to probably be how much the items cost, and/or your time to make or modify them.

What I've seen on order forms is that any order placed can only be cancelled within X number of days from when the order was written, for instance 10 days. Thereafter, the order will be shipped and if returned, you will assess restocking fees, a handling charge, and the shipping fees it costs the designer to send out the package.

Most buyers who overspend their budget will try to return merchandise when it comes in saying it was damaged or some other reason. After racking up all of these fees, they will be more careful about ordering.

Most importantly, put it in writing on your form in bold print so that the buyer will clearly see your terms.

I am a sort of store owner. I have found that many start-up clothign stores go out of business quickly. If you find it difficult to make sales try to get into some better know shops by placing you clothing on consignment. This may boost your sales and make it easier to get placement elsewhere.

Well budy it depends on you about how you get your thing started. Nike started out of the trunk of a car. If you will need shirts screnprinted I wil do that for you for almost nothing. But as far as the other stuff go and register with a shirt company they will do your lables in there shirts for about 25 extra cent or something like that. So write me back we can discuss more later

We have started our company and now have 4 different selections with 8 sizes, i know its not much but it is a begining. 0ne problem that we have run into is the time frame, we have orderd all of our summer stock and now winter is comming up and we dont believe that any of the stores will buy our products until next summer. Hi, If you don't want anyone else to have your name, you should probably trademark it. Check out the USPTO website. You can do a search and then file for a trademark yourself. An attorney usually charges around $500 to do the work.

I'm going to assume your project is for school, correct? Just to give you an idea, H&M clothing stores would carry a label like yours. If you're gearing your line to 25-35 year olds, they want trendy clothing, which I'm sure you already know. A store like H&M would carry that or Urban Outfitters. Go window shopping in your area and whatever dress shops or boutiques you feel have the same or similar vibe as your label, telephone them or even walk in with a professional layout of your designs and ask to to speak with the owner or store manager and let them know you have a new clothing line you'd like to interest them in etc. I hope this helps.

I am paying for most things out of pocket and I would like to see my clothing go more places than local.
