Can anyone give me any ideas about how to get money for our business when we have bad personal credit? I have looked at grants and none seem to be for business. We have incorporated but that doesn't seem to help. Everyone still asks for personal SS#'s. I saw the section on the Cafe about the org. that help establish corporate credit reports, but won't that take a long time and on a regular credit or loan form what would you put in the place of the SS#? How do you get these creditors to even check with these organizations instead of the personal credit bureaus?

Also are there people who will write up a business plan for your company? I have been trying to do it but just can't get it done.

Also, banks and lenders are always looking for financial growth and all kinds of statements. What happens when you barely get by and don't really make much if any profit and you just have your bank statements and tax returns to show? I mean, this is why we need capital so that we can make money! But nobody wants to give anything to a business who isn't making a lot of money! HELP!

Overcoming your personal credit "glitches" will be difficult, but not impossible. Commercial lenders want your SS#'s because they want to check your personal credit. You will be asked to personally guaranty the business loan. Simply incorporating your business is not going to eliminate the guaranty.

Several things that you can do. First start looking for a cosigner or investor.

There are two good sources for business loans to the "credit challenged" both are nonbank nonprofit lenders. You will want to contact the SBA backed Microloan lender that services your area and your local Community Development Corporation.

I do know how to make a lot of money, but of course my credit is shot also. I see all the small business loans for minorities and women, which is perfectly fine. What about a non minority who is a Veteran, young, but has made a couple of mistakes financially. All I hear is how I have such great ideas, yet I cant get the 10 richest people I know in my area to back me up. Commercial lenders shy away from nonprofits. The SBA will not guaranty a loan to a nonprofit entity. Unless you have a contributor waiting in the wings you may want to rethink your nonprofit structure.

If loan proceeds are going to be used to acquire equipment then you will want an equipment loan rather than a working capial loan. You do not want to tie up any WC lines with fixed asset financing.

Still don't know if the business is a start up based on an idea that was originally thought up by your great grand father or if the business has been in exsistence since you great grand father started it many years ago.

Your personal credit glitches are one obstacle that you will need to overcome. That is difficult, but not impossible.
