Can anyone give my any guidance or information on starting a teenage group home?

You might begin by contacting your state's department of health or children's services. You will need to be licensed by the state and you will need to have an approved facility, which will require that you meet certain requirments and be inspected on a regular basis.

I checked out a site this morning, called new beginnings......located in north caralina. It had great back\ground information.

Right now I'm still in the process. What I will suggest you do is if you know anyone in your area that have a gorup home talk with them. Be prepared for a lot of paper work and up's & downs. Think about what you want your home to offer so basically visualize and write it down. Get out and talk to different people, jusy because one person isn't willing help the next person may be willing to help. Good luck & God bless.

I saw that you are interested in starting a Group Home, Well So do I. It has always been my wish to do that. I am a foster mom, I have had the chance to meet so many young girl with no sense of directions, so will for anything. I think that I would very much like to reach out to them.

Hello Everyone,

I live in Maryland and I am very interested in starting a group home. I have been stuck in the first step for quite awhile. I have been to the single point entry meetings now I believe I need a 501 3 c status. This has pretty much been the run around I've been getting. Does any have any suggestions for me?

The christian home HouseofHope.org, holds seminars (they just had one a few weeks ago) and they help people start christian homes- from start to finish- paperwork, laws, everything you will need to get started.

I would like to start a Group Home for either mentally Challenged adults or pregnant teens. I don't have a clue how to begin. All I have is a heart and the energy to do it. Can someone please help me. I would like to do it in either Ca. or Ga.

My wife and I have just started pursuing the plans for a group home in our area.......I read in one of the previous messages that someone was intrested in the finacial potential (Sad). I think some people see the money that is given for each child, and they get excited....wow, we can make a ton of money......remeber it's a non profit org.....yes you do pay employees and yourself....but the are much easier ways to turn a profit......We have had so much success talking with group home administrators in our area....they seem to be very helpful. The first obstacle for us would be the dollar amount that the state wants to see in the bank, before anything gets started $100,000 (that's 3 months of expenses).....Talk to the successful group homes in your area...you don't have to reinvent the wheel...just find out who's program you have respect for........and duplicate it

i aminterested in having my own group homesomeday i have been working with children for years and i work with older people in the nursing homes as wellashospitals i am a people person and children can't help the way their life turns out and it makes yours hart hurt to see people not doing things from the hart and you are right money is not the answer just to see the smile on their face and know that someone care is a million bucks

I agree with you regarding you're statement. To many people are doing it to make a profit! That is not the right thing to do. I believe that the primary goal is to take care of our children and make sure that we support them and help guide them to reach their full potential and rehabilitate them if needed.

I purchased a beautiful 1886 Victorian home last year. I had it completly renovated. It is a 11 bedroom 7 full bath home with 5300 square feet of living space. All new electric, plumbing, drywall, appliances, 2 heat/ac units, fixtures etc... Now that the home is basically brand new, I would like to get the group home up and running either with my wife and I running it or an outside group running it. Any suggestion would be appreciated.
