When and why did you start the biz?
January 2009 as Bennett Consultants. We changed the name to better reflect what we're developing at this time.
How Many People are in your Company?
5 so far
Where's your office?
Since we never use the living room, we put our office there. At least we can SEE what the weather's like!
What's the toughest part of running your biz?
The toughest part of getting our business started is getting financing with less-than-perfect credit, which is pretty much standard with a start-up business. We've encountered lots of scams for grants and financing.
What's the most fun part?
Watching my wife dreaming up things that will make money and help clean up the environment.
Anything you would have done differently?
Yes, we would have gone into business for ourselves long before now.
What's next on the horizon for your biz?
Getting our machinery built, schlepping it around to trade shows and showing the big oilfield services companies how much money they can make while helping to clean up the environment. We want and are looking forward to licensing the technology.
What advice do you have for others?
When you get your idea, GO with it. Don't let anybody tell you that you're being silly, or that your idea is dumb. Maybe it is, maybe it isn't - but if you don't try, you'll never know. Make sure you've got a sound business plan; SBA can help you with that.
How do you use Idea Cafe to help your biz?
We're wanting to network with others that have done what we've trying to do and made a success out of it.
School (where, still in school, degree)?
Sam Houston State University, BSM
Prior jobs or business?
ALl sorts of things, none of which were either interesting or fun.
Favorite Food?
anything that starts with a P: Popcorn, pizza, pasta . . .
What are your pets' names?
Favourite is Chocolate Drop, our chocolate-point Siamese
Do any of these pets help with your biz?
nope, although they'd like to.
Is there any one person or event in your life that led
you to go into business for yourself?
My wife's job got outsourced - AGAIN, for the third time in 10 years. We decided then that we didn't want to go through that ever again. This is the best way that we know of to at least make that effort, to not be at the mercy of big corporation policies that are not friendly to the American worker.
