About our Guest Expert Jim Chesky of Jim Chesky & Associates Before deciding to put his marketing expertise to good use for himself and his clients, Jim spent nearly 30 years working in advertising, broadcasting, and sales. As an employee, he recalls how his ideas often disappeared into the black hole of his bosses' offices, never to be heard from again. But now, his ideas are paid for in cash and hailed as genius by happy clients! He revels in consulting and enjoys the challenges each client brings to the table. With his wide background in marketing and his love of reading, Jim offers up plenty of beefy marketing and biz know-how. When he's not off lecturing, consulting, or researching, Jim's passion for photography (especially black and white) and writing poetry and fiction keep him from getting bored. Jim Chesky & Associates, Marketing Communications Jim started his biz, Jim Chesky & Associates, in 1995. Here, he works his marketing magic. As a marketing consultant, he looks at how companies communicate -- from the inside and outside. This means studying company catalogs, mailers, media ads, websites, and even company memos. He'll even observe how employees interact with customers to help brew up the right advice for ailing marketing strategies. As part of his marketing services, he also conducts seminars. Jim likes working with small business, and enjoys public speaking. Jim's Answers My wife and I manufacture bird houses, bird feeders, and bird house planters. We have a web site up, [but] are unsure how to motivate the marketing aspect of this mega-media. Any ideas? I'd like to place my link on other web sites. What's the best way to do this without spamming people? I have a site that sells products from Poland and I'm ready to start a newsletter... I want to design and operate a web site where I want to list the local businesses coupons on the www. I would appreciate any advice on how I can market this idea to local businesses. We're two college kids with little money to start a business with our own money, but we feel that our idea will be a big hit... Our questions, though, are: How do we go about getting started? Will the bank give us a loan? Do you think this is a good idea? Will it make money? ...Please help us. We were thinking of posting a marketing survey to related newsgroups. How can we word our posts so they don't look like spam and so that we get responses to our marketing survey?? I'm a professional speaker and writer. The speaking agents that we use take 35%! I want a proactive way of marketing myself for seminars etc... any ideas? I need to get exposure to get clients, do you have any suggestions? I've invested a lot of time and money on the Cash Flow industry. I just ran out of money right before I was making it to the finish line. Would you kindly let me know what to do or where to turn to find someone willing to help me and also profit from this? I've had several get ideas stolen from me -- or someone higher up has taken the credit (I call these people cheese eaters! ha ha ). . .I've started kicking around an idea to start a business that researches ways, suggestions, and ideas on how to save companies money. Is this possible?
