Answer from our Guest Expert Mark Bower of Aberdeen Mobile Home Repair - page 3 The Phone Should Always Be Answered by a Live Person The final critical aspect in running a handyman business is to follow-up. If you're running late for a job, call ahead and tell the customer that. As you'll soon find out, keeping a schedule is tough to do. Not only do some jobs take longer, but customers often find something else to fix while you're there. In my case, my wife does much of the calling. She's also there to answer the phone. If you don't have anyone to answer the phone, invest in a cell phone and have your home/business number forwarded to it. That way, you won't miss any calls. I could tell you story after story about how I got the job because a live person answered the phone in a professional manner (that means your five-year old can't answer the phone!) In this business, a cell phone is as important as a hammer. Since this subject is near and dear to me, I could write much more. If you're sincere in your work and back it up 100%, have the proper pricing, and become the king of follow-up, you'll succeed. If you have any further questions, please feel free to email me.
