Answer from Expert Laura Wiegert of Creative Consultants - page 3

The Hit List

You can compile your own mailing list based on specific companies you want to target, or you can easily purchase one from a list company, based on your specifications. (If you don't have a local source, try the Internet.) Just make sure the list you prepare is reaching the people you want to reach, or it's wasted money. And don't forget to get prospects' phone numbers when you purchase the list, because after the first mailing, you'll want to do follow up calls, which are key as they can get you in the door and get you sales. You don't necessarily have to do a follow up call to every person on your list or after every mailing, but make sure you make a certain number of calls weekly, if not daily.

The Best Way for You to Start

Because your audience is so specific, I think direct mail is the best way to start out. You can enhance this through other marketing avenues, such as professional or trade publications advertising, attending trade shows, or networking at chamber of commerce meetings or other business-related functions. Get creative! Offer your services as a speaker at an industry seminar and offer to talk about using DVDs in the corporate world. Or send a press release on a similar topic to your local or regional newspaper. The bottom line is to build name recognition and create awareness in people's minds, so when they need your services, guess who they think of? YOU!!

Good luck!
