The Biz Question

With the advent of the computer, the human element can hardly keep up. Not enough time is allowed for reflection and consideration. Everybody wants the end product like they want their pizza delivered. Professions are reduced to competing with pizza delivery people. Appraisals involving millions of dollars are requested one day and expected the next day. Appraising is an art, not a science, nor is it mathematical in exactitude. Humans are inconsequential...just keep the paper coming.

Answer from our Guest Expert Allison Gaea Jucha of Yes!Coaching

You are not alone in honoring work as art and craft. You're one of many people who are dissatisfied with commerce based on instant gratification.

I want to share with you the hope I feel as I attend business conferences and speak to CEOs of technology corporations where I hear a resounding call to values-based business practice.

Yes, we've moved headlong into the Access Age and so many ideas, products, services are at our fingertips. But there's a spreading move for both success and responsibility to others. Businesspeople are understanding that the market is no longer about pushing products but discovering needs and answering them. The customer is now an individual.

I'm so pleased you have the desire to add value to your customers' lives and businesses by serving them as individuals. My suggestion: You have a choice each time potential clients connect with you. If they don't want to do business your way--the artful way, the human way--refer them elsewhere.
