Funding for Innovation
Looking for a boost to that surefire idea that will revolutionize society as we know it? A little known pot of federal money can help when no one else is willing to take the chance. The National Institute of Standards and Technology, through its Advanced Technology Program, put $144 million into the entrepreneurial development pipeline last year.
It's not easy money. Your project must be thoroughly researched and have both sound scientific and technical merit. And it must be shown to have a significant impact on the national economy. (One company that was funded showed their product could save U.S. companies $75 billion a year and add $10 billion per year in inmproved productivity.)
Your idea, however, need not be a huge development. The categories are broad and the range of proposals funded vary widely. Check it out
