Well, you're right: owning a business takes you away from the cosy comfort of the corporate water cooler -- especially if you do most of your work from your home office. As the head honcho, you've set your self apart; you can't complain about the boss, because you ARE the boss. When things go awry (as they will from time to time), your family and friends can only listen so long before they start offering more "helpful" suggestions than you can stomach or pointing out that since the buck stops with you, it's probably your fault.
