What does your business do?
We Pick up and dismantle outdated or unusable computer and electronic equipment, and recycle all materials contained therein. We destroy all hard drives and put the platters in a chipper. We also donate many smaller devices to a local food bank that also does electronics recycling to support the food bank
When and why did you start the biz?
I started it because I saw a need and knew I could do it. I started it as a side line last year, and went into it full time in January.
How Many People are in your Company?
1 full time the kids help one day a week

my garage and basement
What's the toughest part of running your biz?
Space I am getting busier but not busy enough to warrant renting a warehouse.
What's the most fun part?
As a child I always like taking things apart my parents even went so far as to hide tools from me because they would come home and find things like the toaster in pieces, But the part I like best is knowing I providing a needed service to my community.
Anything you would have done differently?
Spent more time researching the buyers for the materials before hand.
What's next on the horizon for your biz?
I hope to grow to the point of having 5 or 6 employees and a shop where we can resell systems we have fixed up for little money to families with kids in school on limited incomes.
What advice do you have for others?
Be prepared this kind of business can go from dead to up to your eyeballs over night
How do you use Idea Cafe to help your biz?
First I want to get through this form, then I hope to learn from others mistakes, make contacts who might know better places for me to sell the materials, and gain some knowlege (as well as becoming a better speller) on how to properly run a business this is all still new to me and I sometimes feel like I'm in over my head.

Graduated highschool in Dallas TX

Mostly warehouse and customer service type jobs.

I'm a meat and potatos kind of guy

Landry, Lucky, Smokie, Lil Bit, Hermies, Patches, and Scrappy
Do any of these pets help with your biz?
Not at this time. If I can get to the point where I have a warehouse facility I may take a couple of them with me to work.
Is there any one person or event in your life that led
you to go into business for yourself?
Getting laid off in a really bad job market
